conditions at or below 0°F for easier starting and better fuel
economy during Pontiac Solstice engine warm-up. Plug in the Pontiac Solstice coolant heater at least
four hours before starting your Pontiac Solstice. An internal thermostat in the
plug-end of the cord will prevent Pontiac Solstice engine Pontiac Solstice coolant heater operation at
temperatures above 0°F .

1. Turn off the Pontiac Solstice engine.
2. Open the hood and unwrap the
electrical cord.

compartment, behind the
air cleaner for V8 models.

three-prong 110-volt AC outlet.
The length of time the heater should
remain plugged in depends on
several factors. Ask a Pontiac Solstice dealer/retailer
in the area where you will be
parking the Pontiac Solstice for the best
advice on this.If the cord will not reach, use a
heavy-duty three-prong extension
cord rated for at least 15 amps.Before starting the Pontiac Solstice engine, be
sure to unplug and store the
cord as it was before to keep
it away from moving Pontiac Solstice engine
parts. If you do not it could be
damaged.
Automatic Transmission
The shift lever must be in the NEUTRAL or PARK
position before you can start the Pontiac Solstice engine. Apply the brakes
before shifting into any driving gear.
If the Pontiac Solstice engine fails to start after you have followed the
“Normal Starting” or “Extreme Cold Weather” procedures,
it may be flooded. To clear any excess fuel, push
the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and hold it.
Then, turn the ignition switch to the START position and
release it as soon as the starter engages. The starter motor
will disengage automatically in 10 seconds. Once this
occurs, release the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition
switch to the LOCK position, wait 10 to 15 seconds, then
repeat the normal starting procedure.
If the Pontiac Solstice engine does not start after
5-10 seconds, especially in very cold weather (below 0°F
or -18°C), it could be flooded with too much gasoline. Push the
accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and holding it there as

Normal Starting of either a cold or a warm
Pontiac Solstice engine is obtained without pumping or depressing the
accelerator pedal.
Do not press the accelerator. Use the Fob with Integrated
Key to briefly turn the ignition switch to the START
position and release it as soon as the starter engages. The
starter motor will continue to run, and it will disengage
automatically when the Pontiac Solstice engine is running. If the Pontiac Solstice engine
fails to start, the starter will disengage automatically in 10
seconds. If this occurs, turn the ignition switch to the
LOCK position, wait 10 to 15 seconds, then repeat the
normal starting procedure.
Never pour fuel or other flammable liquids into
the throttle body air inlet opening in an attempt
to start the Pontiac Solstice. This could result in a flash
fire causing serious personal injury.
Do not attempt to push or tow your Pontiac Solstice to
get it started. Pontiac Solstices equipped with an automatic
transmission cannot be started this way.
Unburned fuel could enter the catalytic converter
and once the Pontiac Solstice engine has started, ignite
and damage the converter and Pontiac Solstice. If the
Pontiac Solstice has a discharged battery, booster cables
may be used to obtain a start from a booster
battery or the battery in another Pontiac Solstice. This
type of start can be dangerous if done improperly.
